Tech-Free School Breaks: Activities to Keep Your Child Engaged During Spring Break | Drama Kids International
Spring break is rapidly approaching, promising lots of family time and fun—that is, if you can convince your children to stay away from screens.
While screens have become an important part of many educational and recreational activities, too much screen time has negative consequences and can even encourage children to make less healthy choices. This spring break, make an effort to engage children with the world around them through these fun activities!
Reducing Screen Time Over Spring Break
Act out plays and skits. This is a great way to boost drama skills at home and make your kids forget about wanting to stare at a screen. Have plenty of props, costumes and prompts on hand to act out plays and skits as a family. You will be enthralled by what fun scenarios your kids come up with, and it is guaranteed that the whole family will have a blast.
Give them a helpful household task. When it comes to doing things around the house, many kids are interested in getting involved, so parents can use that to their advantage. Enlist their help putting together meals, cleaning up and doing any other chores around the house to keep their brains busy and their bodies moving.
Keep puzzles handy. It is impossible to stare at a screen and do a puzzle at the same time, which is why they are a perfect activity to encourage your children to get involved with. Keep plenty of interesting and age-appropriate puzzles on hand—and while it may feel cluttered, it could be fun to keep one out on an extra table over spring break so they can keep coming back to it throughout the week.
Bring out surprise activities on occasion. One of the reasons why screens become so engrossing is because of how they are always showing children something that feels interesting or new. If your children are not as engrossed in the same toys and activities they usually enjoy, bring out some surprises every now and again. Buy a new board game or activity and save it for just this moment to bring out and avert everyone’s attention from the TV.
